Analysing a magzine front cover

 

I have analysed a magazine front cover of the famous pop sensation Christina Aguilera. This will help and guide me when it comes to the magazine I will be creating later on.

As soon as I look at this magazine I can tell it is a rock magazine that is based around the famous singer Christina Aguilera and other artist such as eminem and Tom Petty the reason why I know this is because it is stated on the magazine which therefore means the magazine will be featuring articles and interviews from these celebrities. The target audience for this magazine is men and the reason why I say this is because of the sexual image in the centre of the magazine. Also it may appeal to people who are interest in rock and the musical instrument called the guitar.

The particular age group for this magazine is from 20-30 year old men. The reason for this being that men at this age are more likely to interest in a image like this as the female in it is being very confrontational in a sexual way. The mode of address being used in this magazine is very cleaver, in the sense that they are purposely using men by displaying an image if a half naked celebrity in order for them to buy the magazine and feel a connection with the female in the image, she is facing directly to the camera and is making eye contact.

The person on the front is Christina Aguilera. The reason for her being on the front of this cover is because she is known for being very sexual and provocative which comes in very handy in this situation. The anchorage text says ‘ inside the dirty mind of a pop princess’ which indicates to the reader what kind of person she is and also it tells us that not only is she sexual on the outside but also implies that her outside appearance matches her inside personality. Also it implies that she is a very confident woman and isn’t ashamed to let loose and this is also clearly seen in her song called ‘dirty’ which came out in the 2000’s. The overall message that the artist is giving is that she may be very sexual and provocative but she also love her career at the same time and takes it very seriously and this is displayed the fact the she holding a guitar. In addition to this the fact that the anchorage say ‘dirty’ and ‘princess’ show that she has two sides to her. The word  ‘princess’ tells the reader that Christina has a naïve; innocent side to her and this might be the message she is trying to tell the reader.

The title block is a very gloomy dark blue, which stands out from every thing else in the front over in order to attract the readers and persuade them to buy it. This title block is a very iconic one and it is very rock n roll looking. The ‘puff’ suggests that there will of lots stories about the stars, which are listed on the magazine including Christina Aguilera. Also there are advertisements about cars and whom they appeal to. Political issues are also displayed in the front cover, which tells us that there will be some form of interview or article in the magazine about this subject. The ‘puff’ tell us that the type of audience the magazine expects are males who are interested in cars and also who have anything to do with guns.

In this magazine cover there three main colours, which stand out, and they are orange, red and blue, these colours stand out because they are very dramatic and staged. Rock is very strong genre of music its loud and outgoing and these colours used in the magazine portrays this very well. The colours out very well against Christina and it allow the readers to notice everything in the magazine. The fonts in the magazine are bold and daring and big this will allow the readers to see what’s happening or what features from a far distance.
